Wonga loans

Anyone here ever had any Wonga loans? Their site is now a claims portal as their admins have taken over.

You have until 30th Sept 2019 to claim against any interest and interest compensation so I’d definitely guve it a go my mate’s Just got £1500 back.

I already owed them money so I’m just gonna keep quiet

If you owe them money you can still claim. As the payout would go towards wiping the debt and the rest back to you.

Only worth it though if the loans were misold/irresponsible/whatever else, and if the potential claim is alot more than the debt owed.

If you have no debt collectors after you id probably just sack it off at this stage.

Ive personally put in a wonga claim, but no idea if it will be accepted/how much ill get but we shall see.

These fuckers played a good part in screwing up my finances when I was younger, so im glad they went under.

I think everyone that has a wonga loan was mis-sold. There are a hundred other ways to borrow money that aren't 5000% interest. That was simply criminal

The issue is... for me anyway, was back in the day wonga and co was the only way to get pretty instant cash (credit cards and other loans take time). Once you fall into the trap youre stuck, as you have to pay back a mountain of interest, and the tarnished credit score means instead of taking out a normal loan with good apr to pay off any loan(s) and be done with it, you are forced to get more payday loans and you get even more fucked.

I was 100% misold, and being young and stupid meant I never really thought about the consequences at the time, which is exactly the kind of people they used to target, even if not admitting it.

Luckily im older and wiser now (somewhat), but the damage has been done and I wont even get back 0.1% of any interest ive paid. Its an expensive life lesson.

No idea how these companies are allowed to operate its sickening. Lots of companies prey on the vunarable though, and sadly it will never change.

Has he got £1500 back or a statement saying £1500? More likely to get £15 by the time they've dished out all the money between everyone!

I once took out about 10 payday loans in a single day so I could go out on the sesh when I was about 18/19 never paid a penny back. I’d only get accepted for about £50-70 each but that added up to one memorable weekend
Marching on together

Wouldn't it have been better to use PayPal credit if you were strapped for cash? You could apply for it almost immediately (takes a few minutes) as long as your salary is over £10k/year. Then it's interest-free for 4 months. This has been around for years and used to be called Bill Me Later until PayPal took over.

The payday loan sharks seem to be a much more recent thing.

It's usury, pure and simple. Why they were allowed to get away with this I've no idea. I can only assume Tony Bliar and his chums had shares in the companies.

I was either a little bit older or wiser when wonga and their ilk came out so never took out a payday loan. I do remember the advertising for them was relentless though. At 18 I would of probably got myself in serious financial trouble. How the fuck the government allowed them to operate is sick AF

Fortunately in my late teens and early 20s I had enough knowledge in emptiers and rips to be making a profit. Sadly I didn't really understand the value of the information I had and could have made far more, but hey ho.
Now of course I'm just a mug punter, which is why I'm giving up (again).
Just for today...

I think this thread title woke the spam bots?
The future is much like the present, only longer.

"Wonga signed a 4 year deal with Newcastle United in October 2012". Wow! I thought it was like 2002 Newcastle were sponsored by them.

The one thing i remember about wonga especially relating to Newcastle was the footballer Papiss Cisse who objected to wearing the wonga sponsored shirt on religious grounds, being a supposedly devout muslim. He was later spotted at Aspers Casino having a bet. Unsurprisingly he, probably after a pay rise wore the shirt

Gotta love those musslims. A guy I worked with did the hajj but still drank whisky while he played online poker
